Context
Choosing furniture and décor from static product images makes scale, placement, and visual fit difficult to judge before a purchase or room rearrangement.
Problem
Give users an intuitive way to preview and compare décor inside their own physical environment.
Responsibility
Product development for a mobile augmented reality experience that connects environmental understanding with interactive 3D visualization.
Constraints
- —Detect real-world surfaces reliably on supported mobile devices.
- —Maintain believable model scale, lighting, and shadows.
- —Keep direct manipulation intuitive while the camera view remains active.
Implementation
DECO-AR uses ARCore and ARKit plane detection to identify surfaces and place 3D models in real-world spaces with realistic scale, lighting, and shadows.
Selected details
- —Integrated mobile plane detection and 3D object placement.
- —Enabled users to rotate, resize, move, and compare décor items.
- —Designed the visualization workflow around informed pre-purchase decisions.
Results
- ✓Users can assess furniture and décor within the context of their own rooms.
- ✓Interactive comparisons reduce uncertainty before purchasing or rearranging a space.
